Eco-friendly Doll?

This is a picture of the newest adition to the American Girl family, Lanie. She is rumored to come out January 1st as part of the GOTY (Girl of the Year) collection. Her books are written by the author, Jane Kurtz.  This is a summary of her first book, which is pictured above: Ten-year-old Lanie loves science and nature, but she has a problem: she’s an “outside” girl with an “inside” family. She longs get out and go camping, but they all want to stay home. It wouldn’t be so bad if her best friend was around, but she’s halfway around the world, living out their dream of studying wildlife. Lanie feels she never gets to have any adventures — anywhere. But when her favorite aunt comes to stay, Lanie discovers that the wonders of nature are everywhere — even in her own backyard. Sounds like she's into nature, which is great with our current environmental issues of Global Warming and Pollution. So, if you or your little sister or even a friend like dolls, I really think Lanie is a great choice. This is a great way to spread the idea of being "green," which is what my site is all about. I think American Girl really hit out of the ball park with this one. Now this is just her first book, read below for more.

Lanie’s Real Adventures: Lanie is having a busy summer. The backyard wildflower garden she planted with her aunt is starting to bloom with all the flowers that butterflies like best. Lanie is delighted, but her next-door neighbor objects — she says that Lanie is growing an ugly “weed garden” and she threatens to interfere. As she searches for ways to spread the word about the benefits of natural gardening, Lanie is horrified to discover the neighbor using poisonous sprays next door — pesticides that could hurt the butterflies and birds nesting in the garden. Can Lanie find a way to get along with her neighbor-and find a creative solution to their garden problem?

UPDATE!

Here she is the American Girl doll (GOTY 2010) Lanie!
Picture
Lanie, a 10-year-old from Cambridge, Mass., will be the 2010 Girl of the Year doll for American Girl, Middleton, starting Jan. 1. She is described as a city girl who learns how to have fun outdoors. Through Lanie, American Girl is working with the National Wildlife Federation to encourage today’s girls to improve their health by tearing themselves away from their computer screens and discovering nature.

So Lanie is promoting girls to go outside and enjoy nature! What a great idea! She's not just helping girls stay healthy but she is be environmental too. Less time wasting energy on the computer, more time using your own energy! Share your thoughts on my blog.
